This book brings back so many memories. I read this over and over as a child. I loved the illustrations, particularly I loved the green dress the little mermaid wore when she gets taken back to the palace by the prince.

I remember being disappointed by the Disney version of this story, when they changed the ending so it fitted in with their "happily ever after" obsession.

I'm reading this book to Rheya at the moment. I wanted her to appreciate the original story line as I did, and being an art fan like me, I thought she might also appreciate the mute (in comparison to Disney), but detailed, illustrations....she does by the way.

I had a favourite book like that. It was The Magic Porridge Pot. Maybe I will read it to Jacob soon.

I was just talking about this yesterday, I hate the Disney ending too. The daughters of the air ending is sad but more beautiful.
